Board of Education - Accomplishments

  • Established and implemented a strategic plan to improve communication with the community and with other elected officials.
  • Established a five-year strategic plan to maintain high levels of student achievement by improving the students’ higher-level thinking skills.
  • Secured Town approval for the additions and renovations to Avon High School.
  • 95% of Grade 10 students achieved the proficiency level on the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) .
  • Students in grades 4, 6, 8 continued to show high achievement on the Connecticut Mastery Test with student performance ranking second in the State in reading in grades 4 and 6
  • Adopted a new reading program for the elementary schools.
  • Initiated cost avoidance programs and participated with the Town to complete a study for joint purchasing and contracted services.
